What you should know: I believe in balancing health and happiness.
I ended up in the Doctors office thinking I was having a heart attack. Was prescribed 2 antibiotics and problems ceased….. I love getting ideas from blogland! Choosing instead to focus on dieting over exercise, the fitness centers focus on the adjustment of their clients to a healthy diet. December 10, at 5:
can you stomach the truth?
They have a database full of recipes, and have not once suggested I eat Smart Ones. I think it is more important to clean our bodies of the chemicals and other not so friendly toxins in our food and stick as closely to real food as possible so that while we are trying to lose weight we can also get healthy.
I have been eating organic now for a while and have noticed a world of difference in my health and my weight. Thank you Vani for all of your help. Vani did not say Weight Watchers was evil and trying to kill everyone. She invites consumers to read the ingredient label and investigate. I agree not everyone wants to substitute cheesey comfort food for quinoa salad.
But Vani is a health food advocate and these WW ingredients are simply not Healthy. If you go to the market and look for canned pineapple or applesause you will find just the fruit and real sugar but not the processed bad preservatives. Plenty of receipes on line for kosher cooking. I am most curious though as to why start with Weight Watchers? I totally agree their prepackaged and frozen food is chemical laden.
Weight Watchers needs to address that and improve their ingredients. But maybe frozen and packaged foods is the only hope someone has to lose the weight and learn fresh cooking in the meantime. The program DOES promote healthy eating and cooking fresh and local. They also have a vegetarian program. The Leaders are totally motivational and leave you with a feeling that you can lose the weight for good and maintain it for the rest of your life. The leaflets they pass out at each meeting are full of healthy recipes, and fitness tips for getting you through the week until the next meeting.
Weighing in at each meeting is so powerful and gets you through the week to the next meeting. Please address these facts in an apology to the program. I know this is way off topic, but I had a question. I am considering trying out homemade deodorant and saw that most of the recipes I could find had cornstarch or arrowroot.
Then I saw online that arrowroot is supposedly bad, especially for pregnant women. Do you know if arrowroot really is bad? Also, is cornstarch bad? Weight Watchers did NOT cause you to have your gallbladder removed, that is absolutely insane. I had my gallbladder removed as well, I know the pain you speak of. Yeah I know its simply not fashionable to actually eat less and buy less of your sponsors food products but if you actually went on a crusade to teach to eat healthier and eat right sized meals you would stand a chance of actually making a difference in peoples lives.
Teach that person what an actual portion size LOOKS like for all the things they EAT, tech them that they should not diet but rather change their overeating lifestyle to eat right sized meal and it far less than they think.
Teach people to teach themselves to learn about food… Its not so sexy and does not get you sponsor kickbacks quite the same, but if you found 20 or people to take a 12 month learn and reduce challenge you would see amazing differences.
Shut the front door! I have done weight watchers for years and lost lbs! All of my weight loss has been a LIE. Chemicals are minimal compared to the health issues your extra weight would have caused……blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, joint issues to name but a few…good job!
The Benbrook link is not a strong argument because they did not take into account yield. There are other arguments out there, but this one should not be used. I was just perusing your entries and noticed that you teach readers to distrust a lot of specific brands and restaurants. I want to be sceptical when choosing my diet. What kind of experience and qualifications do you have?
It was a wonderful program that taught me about a balanced diet and portion control, and to this day I still have the guide and points calculator! For the past 5 years I have been living in Chile, a country with a great selection of vitamin rich fruits and veggies the food here is actually more nutritious than other parts of the world because of the amazing nutrient rich soils and very little processed food.
What does that mean? It means that correlation was demonstrated when they gave a survey to some people cohort. Anything that comes prepackaged and in the freezer section contains a lot of sodium. I always remember what I learned in school about people at sea for long periods of time, they canned their food but were getting sick because the food would spoil.
Look at a box of Lean Pockets, everything on the label is low…except sodium. Without a preservative food spoils quicker. I think I made sense but probably not lol. Processed food in India is getting more and more in recent times. It is really scary to see the long list of chemicals in the food. Hope they have listed everything. But consumer have a choice — Reject processed food, stick to food as close as possible to the natural form.
Never went for weight watchers but always ate whole grain cereals and fresh fruit , cottage cheese, some honey for my mid day meal and never worried about weight gain. I need some information on Medifast. Any good information on it. I would like a friend to get off of it and back to real food. I lost weight with weight watchers. I have kept most of it off. No one requires members to eat their foods.
I did eat a lot of processed food then, worst was Cool Whip and Healthy Choice meals. I learned that I lost much better with real food. I purchase it DRY and add water and it is similar in texture to oatmeal…. I understand the concern regarding unnecessary chemicals in processed food and do agree we need to read labels. Just showed my fiance, going to ask him to do this. I was just wondering, how large was your room that you did? Thank you so much! My husband tries to ban me from reading blogs because it means more work for him!! I love getting ideas from blogland! Good luck on your floors! Your floor looks beautiful!! I have a question, though. Did you leave any sort of gap to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood? I would love to do this, but worry about that.
Some of the gaps are a bit bigger and some are smaller because some of the pieces were not perfectly straight. I think the bigger gaps give it a little characeter. So far, the floors are still absolutely beautiful! This tutorial can be really helpful for installing plywood flooring, it sure looks easy after reading the above post but i am sure you must be knowledgeable enough to do this without any mistakes.
Your floors are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!!!! Question, how long did this take you both, did I read that you did it over a week-end? Just wondering about applying the Poly, etc…timeframe estimates. It took us about three days ALL day. We put the poly on, waited four hours, light sanding, put coat 2 on, waited four hours, then we put four more coats on sanding lightly before the last coat. It monotonous but so worth it!! If you want to take a great deal from this article then you have to apply these techniques to your won web site.
Hi there to all, how is everything, I think every one is getting more from this web page, and your views are pleasant in favor of new viewers. Also visit my web-site — hardwood floors. Hi there, every time i used to check web site posts here in the early hours in the break of day, since i enjoy to find out more and more. Look into my web page — treatment for toenail fungus. I am curious about the nailing process. What size and style nails did you use, and did you stick to the pattern shown in your first diagram?
Again, lovely floors and thanks! We rented a finish pneumatic nailer gun and it was a lot of fun to use! We did not fill in the nail holes. We just stained over them and I think it just adds character to the floor. We all walk on them with bare feet and it is very smooth. We absolutely love our floors. Are you thinking of laying wood floors? It was a lot of work but oh so worth it. I really want to do every room. Hi This looks really great! I was just wondering about spaces or gaps between the plywood strips.
I am just worried about dirt being trapped between the plywood planks. We tried to put nickels in between each board. Some gaps were too big for the nickels. We vacuum and it seems to do the job. Your floors look great! I never knew plywood could look so nice! I think of plywood as being kind of soft, relative to traditional hardwood floors.
Do you have more dinks, deep scratches, etc. With kids and a dog, they are still looking great! I really want to stain all my light oak floors the same dark stain as my family room. Hi Linda, I love this idea! Do you have any pictures of the nailed down ends close up?
Wondering how it looks. Also did you use a sander? We love our floors. They are holding up very well. I do not have a close up of the nails. If you send me your e-mail I can send a picture to you. We bought A grade plywood that did not need to be sanded. We did do a light sanding after installation before staining.
We did that with a hand sander. We just butted each board against the previous board and nailed it down. So far it is holding up well. I think my favorite part is that your whole family works on these projects together.
Have a great Christmas! Hi Linda I love the floor, and after laying to hardwood floors for my parents and knowing the cost, even doing the work myself, I love the idea of the plywood floors, I'm cureently building a small cabin up behind my parents house, for when I visit, and was considering hardwood floors, expensive, lol, then I came across your blog and love the floors, but after doing numerious google searches I can't seem to find a good how to on staining the plywood, What stain did you use, oil or water based and same for condioner and poly coat.
We absolutely love them and they are holding up so well. Then we used Minwax Red Mahogany water based stain. I just put it on with a clean cloth and my husband followed behind wiping the excess off.
The polyurethane was Varathane water based. We brushed on six coats. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. Good luck with your floors. OMG I love your floor! Also did you sand the cut edges before laying floor and did you glue them to the subfloor before nailing them into place? Did you nail them at a angel or straight into the floor? Do you think this would work for countertops as well giving them a sort of butcherblock look?
We did not sand the cut edges. We do glue to the subfloor before we nailed. Nailed them straight in. Not sure about the countertops. Your floor is incredible! I think your answer is really splendid.
LOVE the way it looks. I truly appreciate you getting all over off that floor!!! The only thing we would have done differently is we would have to cut the plywood with a table saw instead of the circular saw we had at the time. We bought a table saw later and life would have been so much easier and the cuts would have been perfectly straight!!
We have small gaps but I can honestly say there has been no problem whatsoever. So happy we did it!!! I love the look of this! Just one quick question…what was the foam insulation board on the materials list used for? I don't see it anywhere in the instructional section. We love our floors! The foam insulation board was used to support the plywood sheets while we were cutting them. In your pattern diagram in step 5 — was there a reason you did not alternate the short pieces from one side of the room to the other rather than having long boards all on one side of the room?
Also, the board lengths do not seem to all add up to 19'. You have explained in more detailed. Thank you for that. And did I understand right you had to stain asap. Anything and how long have you have them now wear and tear. Any upkeep things I need to know.
Hope you get this and private email me quilting nemont. I loooove your floors. Ever since we moved in I have been wanting to get rid of this gross carpet…now its 3 years later lol. A couple of questions: How do you clean your floors? Your floor looks fantastic! I have a couple of questions though.
I'll apologize ahead of time if someone has already asked. Did you use the foam board under the plywood over the subfloor? And did you use glue and nails both? We did not use foam board under the plywood. Yes, we used glue and nails. I love how your floor turned out! It looks like it has been about 2. How is it holding up? Were you concerned about the longevity of the floor with the laminate breaking down over time?
I love this idea and told my husband about it, but he thinks that the plies will blister over time. I'd love to know what your thoughts are on the subject. These are gorgeous and the tutorial is fantastic. I think this may be the answer for us redoing about sq. This is my first time visit at here and i am genuinely impressed to read everthing at alone place. Hi, love the floors1 Its been almost four years now and I want to know if the floors are still in good condition.
Have you had to to do any touch ups in this time? I am thinking about doing this over my existing wood floors. We do not have a solid sub-floor, but wood planks that I have been told cannot be sanded again. I love my family, my God, my home […].
We are laying plywood floors in our family room because we had to rip up the awful stained carpet in that room and ANYTHING would have been an improvement. I didn't want carpet again. All of our first floor is wood except the family room and guest bedroom. We did our weekly feels like daily run to our friendly neighborhood Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. We really do have some of the nicest, most helpful people working at our Lowe's.
It's a pleasure to go in there and spend our children's inheritance!! This is what we bought: The first thing we had to do was to build a saw guide for our circular saw.
